This series of paintings is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic fairy tale Snow White. Departing from the traditional narrative structure, the work playfully explores a crossover of elements—witch and princess, forest and laboratory, innocence and desire—creating an unexpected detour that invites empathy and curiosity from viewers.

The two canvases are connected through the motif of a mirror. Within this mirrored relationship—where the witch stands before the mirror and the princess appears within it—the work raises the question: Who is the real protagonist? Familiar animal characters from the fairy tale break free from their prescribed roles, navigating their own desires and confusion. The fox witch conducts experiments, the princess indulges in a carrot cake, and the reflected landscape in the mirror appears distorted and surreal.

These contrasts symbolically reveal the tension between the inner and outer worlds of each character. Rather than merely reproducing a fairy tale, this work focuses on deconstructing and reassembling its forms to spark the viewer’s imagination and encourage the creation of new narratives.

이번 작업은 고전 동화 백설공주를 현대적 시선으로 재해석한 회화 연작이다. 전통적인 동화의 구조에서 벗어나, 마녀와 공주, 숲과 실험실, 동심과 욕망이 교차하고 뒤엉키는 유쾌한 일탈을 통해 관람자와의 공감대를 형성하고자 했다.
두 개의 화면은 거울이라는 장치를 중심으로 연결되며, 거울 앞의 마녀와 거울 속의 공주라는 전복된 관계 속에서 진짜 주인공은 누구인가 라는 질문을 던진다. 익숙한 동화 속 동물 캐릭터들은 주어진 역할에서 벗어나, 각자의 욕망과 혼란 속에서 살아간다. 여우 마녀는 실험을 수행하고, 공주는 당근 케이크를 먹으며, 거울 속 풍경은 일그러진 채로 표현된다. 이러한 대비는 각각의 존재가 가진 내면과 외면의 충돌을 상징적으로 드러낸다.
이 작업은 동화를 단순히 재현하는 것이 아니라, 형태를 해체하고 재구성함으로써 관람자의 호기심을 자극하고 새로운 서사를 상상하게 만드는 데 중점을 두었다.
