My work often features a ghost-like figure of myself draped in a bojagi (traditional Korean wrapping cloth), appearing alongside a group of dogs like a solemn procession. Set against a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world, the work explores memories and longing for lost beings through the symbolic presence of ghosts.
The central composition includes myself and the dogs in ghost costumes, suggesting a ritual of remembrance for those who have vanished. This work stems from my emotional attachment and experiences of loss, particularly regarding non-human beings—most notably, dogs, which are both familiar and strangely other.
The ghost dogs in the paintings are based on real dogs I once loved. Though they are no longer with us in this world, they gather once again in a fictional, nocturnal space. These are not simply animal portraits but metaphors for a post-apocalyptic dystopia. Even after the collapse of civilization and the disappearance of a human-centered world, the remaining beings continue to call upon one another through relationships, memories, and rituals.
I intend to continue creating work that draws on surrealist imagination—crossing the boundaries between the everyday and the extraordinary. My aim is to build a small, personal world where the familiar and the fantastical intertwine, blending humor with imagination.
To invite empathy and emotional resonance from the audience, I incorporate warm lighting, playful figures, green grass, and Halloween pumpkins—creating a gentle and accessible visual language.
내 작업은 대표적으로 보자기를 뒤집어쓴 유령 같은 나의 모습을 여러 강아지들과 함께 군단 처럼 등장한다. 디스토피아적 아포칼립스 세계를 배경으로, 잃어버린 존재들에 대한 기억과 그리움을 유령이라는 상징을 통해 풀어낸 작업이다. 유령 복장을 한 나와 강아지들이 함께 화면 중심에 등장하며, 이들이 사라진 자들을 기리기 위한 의식 속에 존재하고 있음을 암시하려 표현하였다. 이 작업은 인간과 비인간 존재, 특히 강아지라는 친숙하고 이숙한 존재에 대한 나의 정서적 애착과 상실의 경험에서 출발했다. 그림 속에 등장하는 유령 복장의 강아지들은 모두 내가 좋아하는 실제 반려견들의 모습으로 구현을 하였으며, 그들은 지금 이 세계에 없지만, 한밤의 허구적 장소 속에서 다시 모여든다. 화면에는 단순한 동물 그림이 아니라, 아포칼립스 이후의 디스토피아적 은유를 표현하려 하였으며, 이는 문명이 무너지고, 인간 중심의 세계가 사라진 뒤에도, 남겨진 존재들은 관계, 기억, 의례를 통해 서로를 호출한다. 앞으로도 초현실주의적인 상상력을 바탕으로, 일상과 비일상의 경계를 넘나드는 그림 작업을 주로 이어가고자 한다. 익숙한 것과 상상 속 세계를 자유롭게 오가며, 유머와 상상력이 어우러진 저만의 작은 세계를 만들어갈 계획이다. 디스토피아적 아포칼립스 세계를 배경으로, 잃어버린 존재들에 대한 기억과 그리움을 유령이라는 상징을 통해 풀어낸 작업이다.유령 복장을 한 나와 강아지들이 함께 화면 중심에 등장하며, 이들이 사라진 이들을 기리기 위한 의식 속에 존재하고 있음을 암시하려 표현하였다.이 작업은 인간과 비인간 존재, 특히 강아지라는 친숙하고 이숙한 존재에 대한 나의 정서적 애착과 상실의 경험에서 출발했다. 그림 속에 등장하는 유령 복장의 강아지들은 모두 내가 좋아하는 실제 반려견들의 모습으로 구현을 하였으며, 그들은 지금 이 세계에 없지만, 한밤의 허구적 장소 속에서 다시 모여든다. 화면에는 단순한 동물 그림이 아니라, 아포칼립스 이후의 디스토피아적 은유를 표현하려 하였으며, 이는 문명이 무너지고, 인간 중심의 세계가 사라진 뒤에도, 남겨진 존재들은 관계, 기억, 의례를 통해 서로를 이끈다. 대중들과의 소통,공감대에 쉽게 다가가도록 따뜻한 조명과 귀여운 형상, 초록 잔디, 할로인 호박등을 넣어 유도하였다.
